I Scream, You Scream ....

... we all scream, for ice cream!
This one is Rocky Mountain Raspberry, at Putters, the best in town.

The BC Bike Race Re-Visited

A brightly jerseyed cyclist, caught just a few seconds
after she crossed the finish line.
One happy biker. One great event to photograph.

Pileated Woodpecker

One from July, last year.
A very cooperative Pileated Woodpecker, it gave me time to set up my
tripod and take a series of photos, of which this is the best.
Maybe next time on a tree.

Harbour Viewing

Sitting on a bench on a fine sunny morning, looking out over the harbour
and beyond, to Harwood and Savary. What could be finer.

At The Net

Heading through Willingdon Park on the way to the Beach Trail recently
it struck me that not only did I not take any "at the net" volleyball photos
this summer, I haven't seen anybody at the Willingdon volleyball net this summer.
Whatever that means. These are from the summer of  '14.

The Clansman

The Clansman Pipe Band, sponsored by Branch 164 of the local Legion.
You see, and hear, them at many events and functions in our community,
and I have many photos over the years.

Above : Brian Pellegrin on Bass Drum, 2016 Seafair Parade
Middle : Pipe Major Ian Richmond (and the Band), Fall Fair 2014

At The Hulks

If the Catalyst Mill follows through on their recent decision to sink the 4 westerly
hulks for a diving attraction, then I will be getting fewer photo opportunities like this one.
From the archives : dated April, 2014

The Coastal Cowgirls

For anyone who likes horses, the place to be this Saturday past
was the Trail Riders complex on McLeod Road. The Coastal Cowgirls
drill team was in town to do a demo. A nice event (even if a bit dusty),
we'll show a few more photos than usual to mark it.

The Launch

As part of the local Yacht Club's 2016 Learn to Sail program
youngsters in the 11-16 age group and their instructor launch a Club 420
dinghy at the South Harbour in preparation for that days' sailing lesson.

That Garage Door

The one on Yukon Avenue. I have admired it for quite some time, in fact I
took this same photo 3 cameras ago, and while the mural hasn't changed the photo
has improved markedly.  The work is signed by Janet Blair, who has a number
of murals around our town.

Violet-green Swallow Portrait

This portrait was taken at Powell Lake near the Shinglemill last year,
but I was there again last week and wasted some of my retirement time watching a
number of these birds cutting swathes through the air. Nice to see.

Testing, Testing

Somebody has to be first, and this lady was the first to test the
new equipment of the outdoor gym being installed at Willingdon
Beach this past Saturday. Even before the bubble-wrap came off.
The gym is a project of the local Rotary Club.

At the Chiropractor's

But not for a consultation. Just a photo opportunity.
Beautiful blooms at 4551 Joyce Ave. The photos are 2 weeks old,
but his garden hasn't changed much since.

Horseshoe pitching that is.
Here Lorraine Hubick of the Horseshoe Pitching Club pitches her shoe,
at the Rec Complex pitch.

Low Tide - Take 2

There isn't a lot of sand on our beaches, even at low tide,
but these visitors from Washington State found a patch
and took advantage.

There are many, many photos of Montbretia to be found on the internet.
I'm just adding another. I found this one at Palm Beach Regional Park.

This fellow and two of his mates were practicing a few songs while
catching the sun at Willingdon Beach.
They told me where they were playing that night, but at this stage in
my life, if I don't write things down, I forget. And I didn't.
Write it down that is.

At Gibson's Beach - 6:30AM

The view of Harwood Island, from Gibson's Beach. Though technically speaking
it's now Ahgykson - since the Sliammon First Nation completed their treaty process
in April, the island's name change is official. It is their island, after all, they get to
name it. But I suspect it will be a long time before
"Harwood" leaves the local lexicon.

Oncoming Traffic

No matter how or where one's traveling - on the road, on the strait - it's
always best to keep an eye out for the oncoming traffic

Coast Guard

Denis Taylor, Officer in Charge at the local Coast Guard station, guides the
CCGS Cape Caution to her berth in the South Harbour.
Having been pulled out of the water myself in the days before there were
SAR Lifeboats at Powell River, I have a deep appreciation of the need for a
Coast Guard presence here.

Back Scratching

This otter was most definitely enjoying itself, getting a good back scratching on the
boards of float #10 of the South Harbour.
As a photographer I very much enjoy the antics of any otter; ask any wharfinger
and you'll get a much different response.

The Fan Isle

An older photo - 2012 - that came to mind, as a friend has purchased her for
conversion to a pleasure boat.
So she too may see a semblance of retirement.

Ol' Blue Eyes

Taken during the recent Seafair Parade.
Am I anthropomorphising by thinking the animal looks dejected?
